What it is?

A topographic map is a type of map characterized by large-scale detail and quantitative representation of relief, usually using contour lines in modern mapping. A topographic map is a detailed and accurate graphic representation of cultural and natural features on the ground. Topographic maps usually portray both natural and manmade features. They show and name works of nature including mountains, valleys, plains, lakes, rivers, and vegetation. They also identify the principal works of man, such as roads, boundaries, transmission lines, and major buildings.

Contour line distinguishes topographic maps from maps of other types which portray the shape and elevation of the land. Topographic maps render the three-dimensional ups and downs of the terrain on a two-dimensional surface.

What we do?

Someshinfotech documents quality Topographic maps through a variety of methods
.

We convert raster maps or scanned images of hard copy topographic maps to vector form using various software packages. Different features of topography such as contour lines, boundary lines, water areas, vegetation areas, forest areas, habitation areas, monuments etc. are captured in different layers to create the topographic map in vector format.

To create 3D topographic maps, elevation is assigned to contour lines to generate a 3D terrain model. Using different software, we prepare DTM (digital terrain model), DEM (digital elevation model), and TIN (triangular irregular network) to model the land surface.

Our services include the followings but are not limited to:

  • 2D topographic maps
  • 3D topographic maps
  • Thematic mapping
