What it is?

Remote sensing is the acquisition of information about an object or phenomenon without making physical contact with the object. It refers to the use of aerial sensor technologies to detect and classify objects on Earth by means of propagated signals (e.g. electromagnetic radiation emitted from aircraft or satellites)

Sensors collect the information in the form of geographical images which later enables manipulation, analysis and visualization. In this system information is transmitted in the form of electromagnetic radiation (EMR). EMR is a type of energy form that is produced after it strikes a particular matter.

The specialty of satellite remote sensing lies in its ability to show large land areas and to detect features at electromagnetic wavelengths that are not visible to the human eye.

The main advantage of Remote Sensing is collating geospatial information about earth that's seen through the eyes of satellites - without touching anything or being present amongst the things & events seen through Remote Sensing. Through Remote Sensing, spatial, and temporal information about material objects, area, or phenomenon is acquired from Space.
