We are well-aware that Asbestos exposure may increase the risk of Asbestosis (an inflammatory condition affecting the lungs that can cause shortness of breath, coughing, and permanent lung damage) and other non-malignant lung and Pleural disorders (on the surface of the lungs).

 Documenting the location of asbestos (Roof, Store, Downpipes, Van Brakes) becomes a necessity to forewarn concerned people who are likely to come in contact with it. Asbestos-related work that is also high risk construction work (i.e. construction work that involves the disturbance of asbestos) requires a documented safe work method statement.

 Therefore, maintaining an Asbestos register is crucial both from the safety and management point of view. The register would contain the following heads: Where, Product, How Much? , Surface Coating, Condition, How Easy Access? , Asbestos Type, Comment, Material Score, & Priority Score.
